FRESH CRISIS IN TARABA STATE LEAVES 30 PEOPLE DEAD

Clashes between rival ethnic groups have killed at least 30 people in eastern Nigeria's Taraba state since they erupted on Friday, police said.

Members of the Jukun ethnic group were marching through the small commercial town of Wukari to a funeral when an argument broke out with local Hausa and Fulani youths, which quickly degenerated into pitched battles with guns and machetes. Attackers also set fire to around 30 houses, police said.

"Now we are in full control, although the crisis claimed 30 lives," police spokesman for Taraba state Joseph Kwaji said, adding that 40 suspects had been arrested.

Taraba state is part of Nigeria's volatile "Middle Belt", where its largely Christian south and mostly Muslim north meet. The Middle Belt often sees violence between semi-nomadic, cattle-keeping communities like the Fulani and settled farming peoples like the Jukun over land disputes.

IBORI LOSES APPEAL IN BRITAIN

The dude looks exactly like what he is; a common criminal.

The jailed former governor of a Nigerian oil state, James Ibori, lost a legal appeal on Thursday against a 13-year prison sentence for embezzling 50 million pounds ($78 million) in one of Britain's biggest money-laundering cases.
Ibori, a founding member of Nigeria's ruling party and a behind-the-scenes kingmaker who ran Delta State for 8 years, was trying to get his sentence reduced. His lawyers argued that the original judge had indicated the term would be shorter.
Judge Antony Edwards-Stuart rejected that argument at the appeal hearing and also said that money laundering should attract close to the maximum 14-year sentence.
Ibori pleaded guilty to 10 charges of fraud and money-laundering in February 2012 and is the most prominent Nigerian politician to be successfully prosecuted for corruption, in one of the most graft-ridden countries in the world, according to monitoring group Transparency International.

BANKY W SPEAKS UP!!!

courtesy Ladun's Liadi

Banky W in a recent interview with City People Magazine spoke about EME and all you need to know about the supposed EME/Wizkid split. Enjoy;

When you released that album there was something a lot of people noticed?

Let me tell you that Wizkid wasn’t on the album. First of all, I want to say that what we like to call“Bad Belle People” because they think there may be bad news and when you don’t give them that news they start to create it because I guess bad news sells more than good news. So I want to say categorically that there was no twitter fight. People go on-line and use Photoshop to create my profile and say that I said this and then they go and create Wizkid’s profile and say he said this. More after the cut.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS: US WARNS NORTH KOREA

(Reuters) - The United States flew two nuclear-capable stealth bombers on practice runs over South Korea on Thursday, in a rare show of force following a series of North Korean threats that the Pentagon said have set Pyongyang on a dangerous path.
The drill by the two B-2 Spirit bombers - flying all the way from the United States and back - appeared to be the first exercise of its kind and showed America's ability to conduct long-range, precision strikes "quickly and at will," the U.S. military said.
The bomber flights, and the unusual public announcement of them by the U.S. military, appeared designed to send a message of Washington's resolve to North Korea amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula.
